A Work In Progress

Grilled Sardines in Makarska on May 1. Međunarodni praznik rada.

May 1 is a national holiday in Croatia: Labour Day/International Workers Day, or Međunarodni praznik rada.

In Canada, Labour Day falls on the first Monday of September.

And while I understand what Labour Day represents, for years, Labour Day represented the day before the first day of school and the beginning of new adventures!

Over the years, that first Monday in September always felt like the start of a new year, chapter, or adventure.

It was an opportunity to start again, grow, explore new subjects and new sports, and meet new teachers and classmates.

It was an opportunity to update my wardrobe - ok, by wardrobe, I mean a new pair of shoes and maybe two new white blouses - because high school uniforms.

Eventually, that Labour Day feeling faded.

Eventually, I learned that new adventures could begin at any time.

Eventually, I learned that the joy was in creating my very own adventures.

Eventually, I learned that I should treat every day as an adventure.

And there you have it—today’s ramble.

From Labour Day to new adventures.

Did I tie it up neatly? Nope.

Will someone read this and think: what is she going on about? Probably.

Sometimes my musings and rambles are not neatly packaged. Sometimes, they are a work in progress. And yes, that brings me joy.

This is my work in progress.

This is my Adriatic Adventure.

This is my joy.
