Exploring Croatia: Five Photos That Made Me Smile

Since moving to Croatia, I have tried to capture the moments that make me smile, laugh, and think.

At the moment, I capture the photos using my iPhone 11.

I want to learn more about photography and take better-quality images.

I keep telling myself that I should get a proper camera.

I keep putting it off.

Hey, just because I made the ‘big’ move and now call Croatia home, I’m still human. And I procrastinate, especially regarding things that bring me joy.

So then I thought, if I write a post about some of my photos, I might be motivated to get the camera.

I’ll let you know if it works.

For now, here are five photos that made me smile. Only the last one wasn’t taken by me.

I hope they make you smile.

Buying Fruit From a Boat

Buying fruit from a boat. Makarska, Croatia

Summer in Makarska means a boat full of fresh fruit. My go-to: peaches!!

I look at this photo and remember that joy doesn’t have to be found in the chips aisle at the grocery store. Joy can be found in purchasing a piece of fruit from a boat on the beach.

This is not an anti-chip message. I like chips way too much.

View of The Cetina River

View of the Cetina River and Omis, Croatia

This is where the Cetina River enters into the Adriatic Sea.

The Cetina is 101 km long.

The Cetina has its source in the northwestern slopes of Dinara and flows into the Adriatic Sea in Omiš.

I often stop along this route and stare out at this beautiful scene.

I always add at least 10 min to my drives. Because why wouldn’t I stop and stare at this?? It’s stunning.

Makarska After The Rain

Makarska after the rain

I took this photo in the early days of my move to Makarska.

The puddles, the yellow, and the lights made me smile.

This is an easy spot to miss. I am glad I noticed it.

It always reminds me of my first months in Makarska.

It reminds me of how eager I was to explore and excited to learn as much as I could about this place I now call home.

Podgora Sunset

Podgora Sunset. Croatia

Podgora is a town along the Makarska Riviera. It is located 10 km south of Makarska.

I took this photo one evening in late September of 2022.

I recall looking out at the Adriatic Sea and feeling calm and grateful.

This is why I rarely turn on my television.

I get to witness scenes like this. Daily.

Hiking To The Top of Sveti Vid

Me hiking on the Island of Pag, Croatia

Last year, I joined a hiking association in Makarska. It was a great way to explore parts of Croatia.

This photo was taken by a fellow hiker on a hiking trip to the island of Pag.

We hiked to Sveti Vid, the highest point on the island at 349 meters.

I know I have not taken enough photos of me on this Adriatic Adventure. I know this because my friends tell me so. Ha!

I was happy to be able to share this photo with family and friends.

It serves as a reminder to take more photos doing the things that bring me joy.

Sveti Vid. Pag.

There you have it—five photos taken of my Adriatic Adventure.

These photos remind me to continue to appreciate the present moment. And that joy is to be found in the little things.

I am grateful for all of it.

I’ve been putting together an album of photos from My Adriatic Adventure.
